Encoding
"Encoding" now does not mean encrypting, coding a message.
Here it is about the "interface" man/machine.
A well-known example: A car has a steering wheel, switches and pedals. After some training (in a driving school) they enable us to drive the machine, to control, dominate it. Perhaps a still better example is a TV set, as it is not only able to be controlled by our telecommander but viceversa might perhaps give us some entertainment or information...
Indeed- "usability" is the challenge to computer trade and industry. The "Personal Computer" with a keyboard, a mouse, its own monitor (as it was formerly necessive to program a "Home Computer" by yourself and connect it to a TV set) and a printer. Later computers got always improved operating systems, now with the ability to use the monitor for inputs...
